KOLKATA, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Today is the auspicious occasion of Bhai Duj or Bhai Phota when the sisters in India treat their beloved brothers and cousins with sumptuous, yummy dishes and pray to the god for the long life of their brothers. The brothers in Kolkata have reasons to rejoice, more particularly those who have a liking for the delicious Hilsa fish! The prices of Hilsa are likely to go down today owing to the arrival of 80 tonnes of the fish from Padma River in Bangladesh. The sisters as well as their brothers are thanking their luck as during this occasion the price of fishes and meat usually skyrocket.
Before the day of Bhai Phota, at least 15 trucks loaded with the Hilsa derived from Padma River have entered the city. It is expected that the sisters shopping for the fish in the morning of Sunday will find them at desirable prices. However, other delicious fishes like Lobster, pompret and Vetki will also be among the preferred lot. For those who prefer fish over mutton or chicken, the availability of Hilsa from Padma at low cost is nothing short of a boon for them.
Everyone from celebrities to homemakers are going to make a beeline for the Hilsa at the city markets today for their brothers on Bhai Phota. For some of the sisters, their brothers stay in remote places or even abroad and hence they would not miss this opportunity to treat their brothers with this sumptuous fish. However, the Hilsa lot that has arrived is reportedly not very big in size.
