WASHINGTON - The US has designated the Iranian militant group ‘Jundullah’ as a terrorist organisation, as it uses “a variety of terrorist tactics” to spread violence across the world.

The state department said that Jundullah had killed and maimed scores of Iranian civilians and government officials since its inception in 2003.

“Jundallah uses a variety of terrorist tactics, including suicide bombings, ambushes, kidnappings and targeted assassinations,” the BBC quoted the State Department terrorist designation, as saying.

Tagging the group as terrorists could ban anyone “knowingly providing material support or resources to Jundullah.”

Jundullah, (Soldiers of God) that operates primarily in Sistan-Baluchistan province, had earlier admitted that it had carried out the mosque bombing in the south-eastern city of Zahedan, which targeted members of the elite Revolutionary Guards Corps in revenge for the hanging of its leader Abdolmalek Rigi in June. The attack had killed at least 28 people. (ANI)
