Republican party takes control of US House of Representatives

WASHINGTON - The United States’ Republican party have picked up enough seats to gain a majority in the House of Representatives, one of the two Houses of the US Congress, on Tuesday.
The opposition party was widely expected to make gains in Congress this year, after electoral cycles saw Democrats win control of Congress in 2006 and the White House in 2008.
According to the New York Times, a Republican resurgence, propelled by deep economic worries and a forceful opposition to the Democratic agenda of health care and government spending, delivered defeats to Democrats from the Northeast to the South and across the Midwest.
Early winners in Tuesday’s mid-term elections included Republican Senate candidate Rand Paul, who was supported by the conservative Tea Party movement.
Paul had campaigned against budget deficits and President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus and health care overhaul programs.
At stake in nationwide balloting are all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, more than one-third of the Senate, and more than half of America’s governorships. (ANI)
