Chandigarh’s Craft Fair showcases handicrafts of north eastern States

CHANDIGARH - A ten-day long National Craft Fair in Chandigarh showcased the variety of unique handicrafts made by people of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur.

Unique and creative things are on display at 37 stalls.

Kamlesh Kumar, the organiser of the Fair said the motive behind organising the Fair was to bring the cultural heritage of the north eastern region into the mainstream.

“We have totally given it a look of the north eastern region of the country. The reason behind this is the culture of the north east that is very different, very rich, and which has never been experienced in this part (northern) of the country and it’s a good help and good opportunity for the people of north east to join the mainstream and to showcase their creativity to the people of this region. So, with that idea we have selected the theme of this craft mela (fair),” said Kumar.

The Fair attracted several visitors who think that the fair acts as a platform for the artists to share their art with the common man.

“We are here in Chandigarh and we can at least have a look over the culture (of north east) we are unknown about. And especially north east is place where we have no idea about their culture and what do they wear. It’s on display here, which is fantastic,” said Prabhjot Dhillon, a visitor.
