IMPHAL - To commemorate the death anniversary of noted thespian Sorokhaibam Lalit, Imphal organised a ten-day ‘Manipur Theatre Day’ here.

The festival, which will conclude on October 31, includes a short-play competition.

Sixteen theatre groups participated in the short play competition.

“Theatre in the state is reviving. There are also well-known theatre artists in the state. If we put more efforts, we will be able to improve further and take part in international theatre performances,” said Mangang, director of the theatre festival.

He also said that the festival would provide a common platform for all the playwrights, directors, actors, and designers of Manipur to meet, exchange ideas, views and interact with each other.

“Theatre will help youth in the state to get engaged in the profession. This will also promote their creativity in the art forms,” said Doli, an artist.

Sorokhaibam Lalit was the father figure of Manipuri proscenium theatre. He also ran the Manipur Dramatic Union, which was a major contributor in the theatre movement of the state. (ANI)
