Mumbai building issue being examined, says Antony

NEW DELHI - Defence Minister A.K. Antony Monday said that the government is “seriously looking into the construction of a multi-storey building, with several defence officers among its owners, allegedly in violation of the rules in Mumbai’s naval area.
“The government is seized of the matter and we are examining it seriously,” Antony told reporters on the sidelines of the two-day Coast Guard commanders’ conference in New Delhi.
He was answering queries on media reports that the Maharashtra government had given occupation certificate to a multi-storey building of the Adarsh Society, despite objections from the Indian navy that it posed serious security concerns.
While the coastal regulations zone has a limit of 30 metres, the building, next to many military installations, stands about 100 metres tall.
The society’s allottees reportedly include former army chiefs, senior military officers and politicians.
