JAMMU - The Indian Army Monday lodged a strong protest with the Pakistan Army over a ceasefire violation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district that killed an Indian soldier, military sources say.
The soldier was injured in rocket and machine gun fire by Pakistani troops Sunday evening in Krishnaghati sector and succumbed to injuries in a military hospital, according to the sources.
The Indian Army did not retaliate to what the sources said was unprovoked firing by the Pakistanis. It lodged a strong protest at the commanders’ level in Mendhar area Monday, the sources said.
The sources said the Pakistan Army had given “vague assurances” that such incidents would not be repeated.
