CHENNAI - The Communist Party of India workers staged a protest here on Thursday against the alleged labour policies of the Tamil Nadu Government.
Trade unions said the Tamil Nadu Government’s Labour Department did not allow elected representatives of the trade unions to sit on the director board of some companies.
Thousands of workers of the Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), affiliated to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), affiliated to Communist Party of India took part in the protest.
Trade union leaders slammed the labour policy of the Government saying it did not honour the rights of workers enshrined in the constitution.
“Most undemocratic, brutal anarchic, and we strongly condemn that act. The workers rise to form a union and elected a leader of their choice, which is ensued in the constitution,” said AITUC General Secretary S S Thyagarajan.
“We appeal the government to respect it and also the labour department should recongnise the union that is elected by the workers,” he added. (ANI)
