President Patil’s thanks to international community for support in becoming member of UNSC

NEW DELHI - President Pratibha Patil on Monday said that India is grateful to the international community for the support and the confidence shown by them to India’s capability to be a voice of stability as well as development in global affairs.

The President said this while referring to India’s election as a Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council during a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan today in which seven envoys presented their credentials to her.

She said India would contribute to global issues in a constructive manner.

The President underlined the need to tackle the menace of terrorism that was threatening peace.

While referring to the importance of co-ordinated action by the international community in economic and financial matters, President Patil said that India was committed to build friendly ties and extend it cooperation in mutually beneficial fields with other countries.

The envoys who presented their credentials included Mr. Fatos Kerciku, the Ambassador of Albania, Mr. Freddy Svane, the Ambassador of Denmark, Mr. Khaled El Bakly, the Ambassador of Egypt, Mr. Kim Joong-keun, the Ambassador of Republic of Korea, Mr. Ahmed Tahsin Ahmad Berwari, the Ambassador of Iraq, Mr. Andre Sanra, the Ambassador of Benin and Mr. Giacomo Sanfelice di Monteforte, the Ambassador of Italy.

Today’s credential presentation ceremony was attended by the senior members of the missions, senior officials of the Ministry of External Affairs (ANI)
