ALLAHABAD - Thousands of devotees lined up along the streets in Allahabad to watch the colourful procession dedicated to Lord Rama as a part of Dussera celebrations.
The procession was carried out a day ahead of the Dussera festival.
Brightly lit tableau depicting various mythological characters was taken out on the streets, as people came together to participate in this procession.
The ‘Vijaya Rath’ procession depicts Lord Ram’s journey to kingdom of Lanka, to rescue Sita, who had been abducted by Ravana.
“A day before Vijayadashami, a ‘Vijaya Rath’ is taken out which does not feature Sitaji. The next day the programme of ‘Bharat Milap’ is held. As a religious tradition, this Bharat Milap happens near the police station every year. We are celebrating this festival in this manner since the last 100 years,” said Rajendra, a devotee.
Children dressed up as various mythological characters showcasing the army of Lord Rama participated with great enthusiasm in the religious procession. (ANI)
