NEW YORK - A Manhattan widow wants to extract sperm from her deceased husband to fulfil his wish of raising a family.

George Kamau, 37, hanged himself this week and now his widow Victoria Chege is seeking a court order so his sperm can be frozen and eventually implanted in her best friend - who would serve as a surrogate.

“It was the intent of George Kamau to conceive a child prior to his untimely death,” the New York Daily News quoted Chege from papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.

“Time is of the essence. The sperm must be harvested and frozen as soon as possible from the time of his death or it will be useless,” she added.

The court order would allow the funeral home to clear the way for a sperm bank to handle the procedure.

“Deceased George Kamau would have consented to the current petition,” she wrote.

A lawyer for the petitioner said he could not immediately comment on the widow’s request.

Judges in several states, including Texas, California and Texas, have previously signed off on requests to have sperm taken from dead men so their wishes for a family can be met. (ANI)
