BANGALORE - Residents of Bangalore paid tribute to renowned Nobel Prize winner Rabindratnath Tagore at a community Puja pandal during the ongoing Durga Puja festival.
The Sarbanjanin Durga Puja, a charitable trust, has paid tributes to Rabindranath Tagore in a bid to remember the renowned Nobel Peace Prize winner.
“Tagore’s birthday is May 9. So, on May 9, 2011 he will be completing 150 years. But we thought that during Durga Puja when all people get together is the right time to remember him,” said A.L. Roy, member of the organising committee.
The committee constructed a pavilion beside the huge Puja Pandal of goddess Durga. The pavilion known as ‘Thakur Bari’, the birthplace of Rabindranath Tagore had showcased different aspects of Tagore’s life. Many photographs of Tagore’s young, middle and old age were being displayed at the pavilion.
Besides theses photographs, rare paintings and few letters written by Rabindranath Tagore to different famous world personalities were also displayed.
The most attractive feature of the exhibition was the family tree of Rabindranath Tagore.
“It is a very good attempt of bringing Rabindranath Tagore’s creativity. I really enjoyed and I was in Shantiniketan last year and it got me the same nostalgic feeling,” said Deepak Ghosh, a visitor at the pavilion.
The motive of the trust was to mark Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary, which would be celebrated next year and make young generation acquainted with the life and work of the renowned Nobel Peace Prize winner. By Jaipal Sharma (ANI)
