COIMBATORE - Activists of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) party in Coimbatore protested against New Delhi’s decision to invite Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to attend the closing ceremony of the ongoing Commonwealth Games on Thursday.

The demonstrators raised slogans against Rajapaksa and asked him to go back to Sri Lanka.

“Mahnida Rajapaksa who is responsible for the murder of thousands of Tamil has been accorded an honourable position by India. We condemn this,” said Vaiko, MDMK general secretary.

Demonstrators also burnt the effigy of the Sri Lankan president.

The protest turned violent when the police tried to disburse the demonstrators and stopped them from burning effigy of Rajapaksa. By Jehovah (ANI)
