Musharraf never consulted PML-Q on NRO, Benazir ‘deal’: Ch Zaheer
By ANIFriday, October 8, 2010
LAHORE - Punjab Assembly’s Opposition Leader Chuadhry Zaheerudin has rebuffed former president Pervez Musharraf’s remarks on the National Reconciliation Order (NRO) and the ‘deal’ with former Premier Benazir Bhutto, saying that the former had not taken his party into confidence in this respect.
Talking to media persons, Zaheer stated that Musharraf promulgated he NRO because he was empowered at that time, The Nation reported.
However, he added that the PML-Q did not let him (Musharraf) legislate it into law, as the Assembly did not ratify it.
Earlier this week, the APML founder had apologised to his countrymen for giving a green signal to the NRO, and blamed the Chaudhry brothers of misleading him on this as well as other issues.
The duo- Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi- had pressed him to sign the ordinance, Musharraf claimed, adding that all his meetings with Benazir had also been held on their insistence only.
“There is always a quid pro quo when two parties get down to hold talks,” he stated. (ANI)
