Mobile phone saves Harlem handyman’s life from bullet

NEW YORK - A cell phone came to the rescue of a 54-year-old handyman when an ousted building super opened fire at point-blank range.
The angry super screamed and soon whipped out a silver handgun to fire shot which left handyman Juan Camarena stunned.
“I feel lucky to be alive. I say thank God for the phone,” the New York Post quoted Camarena, who suffered only a tiny half-inch scratch thanks to his Nextel I530.
He explained how he was mopping the floor landing when an ugly verbal dispute took a potentially deadly turn.
When the handyman headed to a second floor landing, the ousted super was right behind him. Camarena said he felt a burn on his belly as a bullet-fired from about 5 feet away-slammed into the cell tucked in his jacket pocket.
Glenn Leach, 54, the president of the co-operative board at the six-story building, said the old super had been told his last day was Oct 1.
“We paid him and asked him for his keys. He did not want to give up the keys. He did not want to leave his apartment,” said Leach.
It was estimated the gunman and Camarena were a mere 5 feet apart when the bullet slammed into the handyman’s cell. (ANI)
