Summary Box: Stocks mixed; Treasury yields fall
STOCKS END MIXED: The overall market ended basically flat after a disapointing report on the jobs market, while blue chips stocks eeked out a small gain. The Dow closed at its highest level since May 3.
EARNINGS REPORTS COMING: Dow component Alcoa Inc. reports earnings on Thursday, starting the unofficial kickoff of the third quarter earnings season.
TREASURY YIELDS FALL: Yields on Treasurys fell to the lowest level in 18 months in anticipation of an expected bond-buying program by the Federal Reserve that the government hopes will encourage consumer spending.
