WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama had reportedly met the national security team on Friday to discuss the security concerns related to the Mumbai-style terror attack plot by the al-Qaeda on Europe.

According to Politico, the White House on Sunday revealed Obama’s behind-the-scenes involvement in the State Department’s warning to Americans travelling to Europe that “Al-Qaeda and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks.”

A senior administration official said that Obama had meetings on this issue with his national security team on Friday night and Saturday morning.

“Also, last evening, new chief of staff Pete Rouse chaired a conference call with relevant cabinet secretaries and national security principals where the White House terrorism adviser, John Brennan, gave an update on the threat and the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton briefed on the State Department’s action on the alert,” he added.

Meanwhile, White House Assistant Press Secretary, Nicholas Shapiro, said in an e-mail to reporters that the President has been following the threat information on a daily basis and was informed on the travel alert throughout.

“From the day we became aware of this latest plot, the President made clear we need to do everything possible to disrupt this plot and protect the American people. Whether the State Department issues a travel alert is the decision of the State Department but this alert is responsive to the President’s direction that we spare no effort,” he added. (ANI)
