Narendra Modi slams Congress Govt. ahead of CWG opening ceremony

NEW DELHI/RAJKOT - With the country geared up for the opening ceremony of the XIX Commonwealth Games to be held here this evening, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has slammed the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre for alleged misappropriation of funds and international criticism the country faced over the sloppy preparations in organising the event.
“The people of the country want an answer for 70,000 crore rupees. They did so much of corruption that every day when you switch on the television; you would find a new scandal associated with the Commonwealth Games. Today, they are busy in applying lipstick (make up) due to tomorrow’s opening ceremony in the evening,” said Modi, while addressing a public rally in Gujarat’s Rajkot city on October 2.
“They are trying to hide their faults under the limelight. But, the people of the country will never forgive them for their acts, and the Congress people are not concerned about this,” he added.
Modi further compared the preparations of the 2010 Commonwealth Games with South Korea’s preparations for the Olympics Games.
“South Korea, even being a small country, hosted the Olympics Games well, but the Delhi Government with its preparation for the mega event has shattered India’s image across the world,” said Modi.
Further talking about the verdict of the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court in the Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit, Narendra Modi said it is a matter of relief that the issue got resolved in an amicable manner.
“To express his thought on any issue, Mahatma Gandhi used to think of Lord Ram. Today, on October 2, we are celebrating his birth anniversary. It may be recalled that two days back, the issue of Lord Ram’s birthplace got resolved. I believe that what Gandhi had dreamt on ‘Ramrajya’ (good governance) or his belief has got an impetus with the verdict,” said Modi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
As per the Lucknow Bench’s verdict, the ownership of the disputed land has been divided as follows: (1) Ram Lala, the birthplace of Lord Ram, given to Ram Lalla Virajman (2) Sita Rasoi and Ram Chabootra to Nirmohi Akhara and (3) The remaining part to be given to the Sunni Waqf Board. (ANI)
