NEW DELHI - Ahead of Commonwealth Games Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has opened the ‘Incredible India’ festival in the city.
On Friday, various cultural groups assembled e from across the nation to give the festival an Indian flavour.
“The cuisines of the entire country and the special things made, will be available at one place and the ambience is very nice,” said Sheila Dikshit, the sate chief after visiting the festival.
A traditional dance was performed to welcome the Chief Minister.
Union Tourism Minister Kumari Selja was also present on the occasion and expressed her confidence over attracting tourists to the festival.
“I just saw that there were many foreign tourists here and it seemed that they are enjoying this. So, I am sure that whether they are foreign visitors or our own Indian visitors, they will all have a glimpse, because our country is so huge and vast. Sometimes, I think all of us also need to rediscover other parts of our country,” said Selja.
Ved Pohoja of a designing company, to which the event has been outsourced, said the festival symbolises the idea of ‘Unity in Diversity.’
“Here, ‘Unity in Diversity’ is the quote. We are trying to depict here the food of Delhi, the taste of Delhi or the taste of the country. The kind of diversity we have in our crafts, from jute till up to diamonds are displayed,” said Pohoja.
“The visitors to this place can do hassle-free shopping and have fun,” he added.
Pohoja added that there would be discount coupons available at the Games Village during the Commonwealth Games.
He also added that he is expecting at least 10,000 visitors everyday at the festival. The festival would open at 1200 hrs and close by 2200 hrs.
The Commonwealth Games 2010 will be held from October 3 to 14 in Delhi. (ANI)
