NAINITAL - National Highway 87 in Nainital got a new route after landslides and heavy rains badly damaged the road.

The road had caved in more than twenty meters below and traffic had been stopped for several days.

The state Public Welfare Department (PWD) has deployed engineers to cut the terrain and repair the road.

Ajay Tamta, an engineer in PWD, Haldwani, said that the work would take about ten days to be completed.

” It will take about eight to ten days for the work to be complete. It won’t be a temporary route. We will make a road, which will be 12 meters wide. It is going to be a permanent road,” said Tamta.

Meanwhile, locals complained that construction affected their day-to-day lives as they had to travel the same route everyday for work.

“We are facing a lot of problems. Our village is four kilometers on and because of this, we face a lot of difficulty in reaching our workplaces. This is our sole earning method,” said Bhagwati. ANI)
