NEW DELHI - Home Minister P. Chidambaram Wednesday said the government will provide foolproof security during the Commonwealth Games (CWG) and it would be wrong to say that there was a credible threat to the event.
Foolproof security will be provided, he said, answering queries from mediapersons.
Asked about the measures taken for air surveillance, the minister refused to get into specifics and said the Indian Air Force had its own obligations.
When he was asked if the government had received any reports of any credible threat to the Games, he said “credible or not credible were matters of judgement”.
However, he added that it was wrong to say that there was any credible threat.
Every piece of information is taken seriously (by the government) and measures put in place, he said.
He said Delhi Police was not issuing any accreditations, which was the responsibility of the Games Organising Committee (OC).
He said police had only issued accreditation to a small number of policemen.
