OKINAWA, JAPAN (GaeaTimes.com)- The Second World War saw a number of USS warships that were pressed into service by the US Navy and played major role behind the nation’s supremacy. One of them is the famous warship USS Emmons. The warship which was extensively used during the Second World War was attacked by the Japanese planes. The ship got so badly damaged that the US Navy officials decided to sink it and the huge ship went down the sea with 60 sailor’s bodies in it. Since then the ship has been lying under water and the site remains one of the most important spots visited by international tourists. However, the divers recently found out that the remnants of the legendary warship has been vandalized by some people. The metal plate of the ship was taken off and the sight was shocking to say the least.
The living crew members of the warship USS Emmons were shocked to know about the latest developments. They described the looting and vandalism as a shameful incident. They also added that the sunken ship should be seen as a resting place for the soul of the sailors who sacrificed their lives. The reason for the looting is not clear. It is also a mystery who vandalized the ship lying there for so many years.
The ownership of the warship USS Emmons lies with the US Navy despite the fact that it was sunk several decades ago. While some historians suspect that the regional people could be behind the vandalism others have refuted this theory. It could be the work of some curious souvenir collector as well.
