Charkha Development Communication Network announces two awards for Ladakhi writers

NEW DELHI - Charkha Development Communication Network has decided to give away two awards, the Sanjoy Ghose Ladakh Women Writer’s Award and the Sanjoy Ghose Special Writer’ s Award 2010-11 to writers hailing from Ladakh.
A cross section of journalists, professionals, students and social activists living in the country, within or outside Ladakh, are eligible to apply. Both the Awards are exclusively for Ladakhi persons.
The Sanjoy Ghose Ladakh Women Writer’s Award is open to women writers above the age of 18 years whereas the other Sanjoy Ghose Special Writer’ s Award 2010-11 is open to persons with disability (men and women) above the age of 18 years.
Both awards are meant to encourage writings, reflecting community perspectives on issues of education, environment and disability from the Ladakh region that remains isolated from the rest of the country.
The writings should be based in the context of the recent disaster and outline how efforts by the communities, government agencies and civil society organisations (NGO’s) can create better conditions for the people of Ladakh related to the above issues.
In addition there will be three Ladakh Women Writer’s Awards carrying a cash prize of Rs.5,000/- each and one Special Writer’s Award carrying a cash prize of Rs.2,000/- with it.
Candidates should have interest in writing on development issues in Ladakh in the media.
The application formalities can be accessed on Charkha’s website www.charkha.org along with the Application Form which can be downloaded.
Applications can be sent in Urdu, English, Hindi or Ladakhi. The awardees of previous Ladakh Women Writer’s Award are not eligible.
All four Awards will be announced at a function to be held in New Delhi on December 7, 2010 which marks Charkha Founders’ Day.
The Awardees will be expected to complete their assignments of six articles with photographs on their chosen theme within a period of six months from December, 2010 till June, 2011.
