Huge cache of arms recovered from suspected Maoists in West Bengal

WEST MIDNAPORE - A huge cache of arms was recovered from two suspected Maoists during a joint operation conducted by the police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in a forest area of West Bengal’s West Midnapore District.

“The joint forces have conducted operations in vast areas of Jhargram and West Midnapore district. In Jhargram in Tapovan forest area, the joint forces conducted a big operation in which 803 gelatine sticks have been recovered,” said West Midnapore Superintendent of Police (SP) Manoj Kumar Verma.

“This is the highest ever recovery of gelatine sticks in the Jhargram and West Midnapore district. I can say that this is one of the very successful operations as far as the recovery of explosives is concerned,” he added.

Verma further mentioned that two suspected Maoists identified as Sukhchand Soren and Yuvraj Murmu were also arrested during the joint operation conducted on Friday.

“The other operation was conducted in Lalgarh Police Station area and Jhargram PS (police station) area. In Lalgarh, the joint forces succeeded in arresting one Sukhchand Soren and Yuvraj Murmu. Both of these persons were wanted in one case of Lalgarh in which they were named in FIR,” he added.

Verma also gave details of the arms recovered.

“One is 7.65 mm pistol another is a country made improvised revolver and three long range weapons.

Apart from that, 12 rounds of 7.65 mm live ammunition, two rounds of 8 mm, 10 detonators and 20 kilograms of ammonium nitrate that can be used as explosives has also been recovered. We have also recovered some Maoist literature and some wires, plugs etc.,” he said. (ANI)
