KARACHI - A lake burst in Sindh province of Pakistan has forced over one lakh people to be displaced, at a time when millions of people are already affected by the unprecedented floods in the country.

The UN spokesman- Maurizio Giuliano- said that the burst in Manchar lake in Sindh forced people living in that area to seek refuge elsewhere.

“More than a hundred thousand (have) been displaced. Not only houses, but boats were also found in pieces (in the affected areas, and) crops are completely washed away,” The News quoted Giuliano, as saying.

“Sindh continues to host the largest number of flood-displaced people, in addition to experiencing the worst of the current flooding,” a UN statement said.

Sindh Province Irrigation Minister Jam Saifullah Dharejo said, “The burst in the lake has affected a large population in Jamshoro district, but we cannot estimate the exact number of people affected, they are in thousands.” (ANI)
