Indo-Americans welcome lifting ban on Satyajit Ray’s documentary on Sikkim

NEVADA - Indo-Americans have commended reported lifting the ban on legendary filmmaker Academy Award receiver Satyajit Ray’s documentary on Sikkim, 18 years after his death.

Welcoming the lifting of ban, eminent Indo-American statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that the film should never have been banned at the first place as ban was against the intellectual expression and freedom of speech and democratic values of India.

Rajan Zed, who is Chairperson of Indo-American Leadership Confederation, further said that they were glad that world would now be able to look at the Ray’s unseen work, the greatest filmmaker India ever produced who gave us films like Pather Panchali and Aparjito.

Besides lifetime achievement Oscar, Ray also won awards at film festivals of Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Moscow, San Francisco, Tokyo; and British Film Institute, Kinema Junpo, Bodil, Filmfare and India’s National Film Awards. Acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa (Ran) once reportedly said about Ray’s cinema: To have not seen the films of Ray is to have lived in the world without ever having seen the moon and the sun.
