SRINAGAR - Six security men were injured in the Kashmir Valley Thursday when mobs defied curfew and hurled stones at them in this summer capital and north Kashmir’s Baramulla town.
“One police constable was injured at Khanpora locality of Baramulla town when miscreants pelted stones at a police vehicle Thursday afternoon,” a senior police officer said here.
“Stone pelting is still going on in the area. A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) vehicle overturned near Nund Resh Colony in Bemina area of Srinagar when miscreants pelted stones at it.”
“Five CRPF troopers were injured in the incident. The situation in all other places of the Valley remains peaceful,” the officer added, pleading anonymity.
Indefinite curfew continued for the fourth day Thursday in all major towns of the valley while a young man shot at by police here died in New Delhi, taking the deaths in the ongoing unrest to 90.
“Curfew imposition will only be reviewed once the situation is re-assessed,” the officer said.
It seems the security forces are under clear orders to deal firmly with those who try to violate the preventive measures taken by the government.
“Strict instructions have been given to the security forces to exercise maximum restraint. But at the same time we are ensuring that the anti-national elements are prevented from inciting youths to take path of violence,” the police officer said.
