PETA tells Pak ’spot fixers’ to fix “balls” of dogs, cats instead to generate goodwill!

LAHORE - The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has offered the Pakistani cricketers implicated in spot-fixing scandal a chance of generating public goodwill by starring in an advertisement that would focus on sterilising dogs and cats by ‘fixing with no-balls’.

In an open letter addressed to Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif, Mohammed Aamer and Wahab Riaz, PETA said that they could help in sterilising dogs and cats by doing the ads to remove the ‘balls’ of the animals, the Daily Times reports.

“Many of us here at PETA are big cricket fans, so we were saddened to hear the allegations regarding match-fixing. No-balls may be a bad thing in cricket, but for dogs and cats, ‘no balls’ are a lifesaver,” PETA said in the letter.

The organisation further stated that it hoped the players would take up this offer as it was a win-win situation for them.

Describing the pitiful life of cats and dogs due to unchecked breeding and lack of good homes, PETA said that ‘fixing’ dogs and cats by having them spayed or neutered was “the key to end their sufferings.”

Spaying one female could prevent the births of 67,000 dogs in six years and 420,000 cats in seven years, said the organisation, adding, “That adds up to millions of animals who will never be born only to suffer and have their lives cut tragically short.”

The tainted trio- Salman Butt, Mohammed Asif and Mohammed Aamer- implicated in the match-fixing scandal in last month’s final Test against England, have been provisionally suspended by the ICC, while Wahab Riaz is also under the scanner and is to be interrogated by Scotland Yard in London today.
