BISHENPUR - Police commandos on Tuesday rescued a kidnapped doctor and nurse of a primary health centre from Manipur’s Bishenpur District.

A combined team of paramilitary 39-Assam Rifles and state police commandos, launched a manhunt and found the medical officer of Mekola primary health centre R K Joymati and nurse Kabita Devi from an isolated house in a field.

The militants who were also hiding at a nearby house ran away on seeing the policemen.

The duo were kidnapped on Monday from their office by unidentified militants, who posing as civilians, had asked them to accompany them to a nearby place to attend to a man injured in a road accident.

A caller who claimed himself as a member of the militant outfit told the family members of Joymati and Kabita Devi that they were kidnapped as the state Health and Family Welfare Minister Ph. Parijat refused to appoint two persons proposed by the outfit and also failed to give money demanded by them.

Meanwhile doctors and medicos held a protest in Bishenpur, demanding proper security. (ANI)
