HISAR - Haryana Chief Minister Bhoopinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday announced that the Jats have called off their protest, after the State government agreed to accept their demands.

The Jat protestors, seeking reservation for their community in the Other Backward Class, agreed to end their violent agitation on Tuesday evening after Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda assured them of recommending a proposal for the same to the Central Government.

The protestors agreed to cremate body of a person killed on Monday during an agitation for OBC quota, after the Haryana government agreed to most of their demands and assured them of giving compensation and jobs to the injured during demonstrations.

“We have agreed to meet the demands of Jats. The Haryana government will give compensation and jobs to those injured,” Hooda said today while addressing the media.

Earlier, curfew was clamped in large parts of Hisar after fresh violence erupted in the region.

The area has been tense since Monday when a Jat rally demanding OBC status led to a participant being shot by the police.

Today, protesters demanding compensation for that man’s family set fire to an ATM, a factory and tankers in Hansi. (ANI)
