In “International Day of Peace” message, Hindus urge world religions to work together for peace

NEVADA - Hindus have urged religions of the world to join hands to bring peace in the world.

Eminent Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a message for the “International Day of Peace” which falls on September 21, said that peace lied at the heart of all religions. World peace efforts had to begin from religions, he added.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that despite our seriously different traditions, we should at least cooperate on common concerns like peace, social and economic development, freedom and human rights, ecological responsibility, etc.

Rajan Zed pointed out that ancient Hindu scriptures Upanishads and other sacred recitations in Hinduism often ended with benediction “Om shanti shanti shanti”, where “shanti” meant peace and could also be interpreted as “perfect, transcendent peace”.

The International Day of Peace, established by United Nations General Assembly, is an annual day of non-violence and cease-fire. “The UN invites all nations and people to honour a cessation of hostilities during the Day, and to otherwise commemorate the Day through education and public awareness on issues related to peace”.
