SRINAGAR - An irate mob burnt down a missionary school in Jammu and Kashmir in protest against alleged desecration of Holy Quran in the United States.

Arsonists attacked Tyndale Biscoe School in Tangmarg village, which is 40-km from Srinagar.

Addressing a news conference, Chief Secretary S.S.Kapoor and Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda, informed that the State government has appealed to the people not to get carried away by rumours and maintain peace.

Kapoor termed the attack on missionary school as an emotional reaction of the local people.

“Just because it is promoted by missionaries. Now Biscoe school as you know has hell (sic) lot history in Jammu and Kashmir. Some of you here might have gone to the Biscoe School; we all are benefited from the Biscoe School. The one in Tangamarg was imparting education not to Christian community; there is hardly any Christian community in Tangamarg. All are from the majority community in Kashmir. Torching Biscoe School is an act of emotion, which personally I think was not necessary. I believe that the mob has now started attacking few other buildings,” said S S Kapoor, Chief Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir.

Kapoor also stated that this rumour concerning the Holy Quran is an international propaganda.

“Something happens in New York, we in the Government of Jammu and Kashmir or Government of India have no way of dealing with it. But we believe that it is an enraptured report. There is a design behind it. They are trying to create. It’s a kind of international thing, it is not something that is focussed on us or for that matter this part of the world. We believe there is game plan behind this. Why only channel of one particular country pushing it and we univocally condemn this,” Kapoor added.

He also said that the State government would take every possible step to reach to core of the issue. (ANI)
