Yamuna Water Level Rise Disrupts Rail Services

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com) — Northern Railways has canceled 25 trains and diverted route of 36 as the Yamuna water continue to rise at a alarming rate. The water level of river Yamuna at the Old Delhi railway Bridge has already crossed 206.60 meter and is apprehended to rise another 15 cm between 4 pm and 6 pm today.

Reportedly, Kalka Mail, Shaheed Express, Garib Nawaz Express, Awadh Assam Express, Shalimar Express and Brahmaputra Mail are diverted while 39 trains including Satygraha Express, Lal Quila Express, Farakka and Howrah Janata Express have been short terminated.

Due to rail traffic at Old Yamuna Bridge, the 3111 Kolkata-Delhi Lal Quila Express will be short terminated at Khurja and its return service, 3112 Delhi-Kolkata Lal Quila Express will also start from Khurja.

In case of 3039 Hawrah-Delhi Janta Express, Hathras will be the termination point and at the same time Hathras will be the place, where the return service 3040 Delhi -Hawrah Janta Express will originate from.

For 3483 Malda Town-Delhi Farakka Express, the train will be short terminated at Tundla and its return service 3484 Delhi - Malda Town Farakka Express will originate from Tundla.

An embankment breach at a village in Panipat dismissed further possibility of water level rise in Yamuna. Sine the flow is now under control, officials expect the river to rise not more than 207 meters mark by 7pm on Friday.

However, Yamuna has reached a season’s high of 206.08 meters that prompted Old Bridge to disrupt rail services.
