AMETHI - Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi who is on a three-day visit to his Amethi constituency, expressed his anger with the local police for not investigating a murder case properly.
Rahul Gandhi got angry when Shahin Bano informed him that police officers of the Rudouli police station were not handling her sister’s murder case properly.
Bano told Gandhi that her sister, Yasmin Bano, whose body was found in the Rudouli area, was kidnapped and murdered by eight persons to grab her land.
Bano recounted how Rahul Gandhi took her to the Musafirkhana police station with him in his car and asked them to look into the matter.
“Rahul Gandhi asked me if I would like the case to be investigated by the Rudouli police station. So, I said no. Then he said, ‘Okay, your case would be handled separately and you can give your testimony there,’ and he said that the accused would certainly be arrested. Then, he also asked me if I was happy with that, and I said, ‘Yes, I am happy’,” said Bano.
Circle Officer at Musafirkhana police station Durgesh Prakash Singh said Gandhi had asked them to conduct the investigation properly, and arrest the culprits.
“Rahul Gandhi came here and he asked us to do the investigations properly. We have informed him that we would investigate the case once again, and arrest whosoever would be found guilty. Already, three have been put behind bars and the required action has been taken on them,” said Singh.
On July 4, Yasmin Bano’s body was recovered from the banks of the River Gomti.
According to Shahin Bano, the police had registered her case but did not arrest the main accused.
Rahul Gandhi later visited the Musafirkhana police station to enquire about the case. He also threatened to stage a dharna at the police station if the accused was not arrested immediately. By Rajul Nigam (ANI)
