UK Immigration Minister meets Ravi to discuss immigration policy

NEW DELHI - British Immigration Minister Damian Green, who is on a three-day visit to India, met Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi here on Wednesday to discuss to discuss issues related to the UK’s immigration policy and ways to tackle the illegal migration.
“The new British Government is extremely keen to strengthen our already very strong ties with India, and we have been discussing a number of issues related to immigration. We both are keen to work together to combat illegal immigration,” said Damian Green.
“We have been discussing the new limits that the British government will be introducing on economic migration next year because we are very keen to make sure it doesn’t interfere with the businesses there, many Indian businesses that operated in Britain,” he added.
Green further said that he would also be discussing Indian student immigration to Great Britain so that students can be benefited from British education.
After the meeting, Ravi said resolving issues related to immigration would benefit professionals and Indian students studying in the UK.
“Definitely, this is a very good beginning regarding the students as well as the professionals who like to go and work there and already working, and the Great Britain is the first destination for the Indian students,” said Ravi.
“We cross American destinations; we are number one in England. hat’s the position today,” he added.
Green is also expected to meet Union Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma, Minister of State for Home Affairs M. Ramachandran and Minister of State for External Affairs Preenet Kaur during his visit. (ANI)
