DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The raging Yamuna River which is flowing well above the danger level has made the Delhi government worried and the residents are bracing for the worst. The incessant rain in the capital has made the situation worse. The government is taking all possible precaution to prevent any mishap. A bridge connecting the capital with its eastern district has been closed owing to the rising water level of Yamuna. The shutdown of the bridge has resulted in huge traffic jams. The fact that the river is flowing well above the danger level for the 5th day has made the experts alert. The possibility of flood in Delhi cannot be ruled out. What may sound worse to the residents of the capital, the river may even rise further.

The raging river forced the authorities in Delhi to issue order for closing the old rail bridge over Yamuna. Both the train traffic and road movement was affected by the closure of the bridge. Naturally the commuters are at the receiving bend. The traffic was diverted via other routes which resulted in chaos on arterial roads in and around Delhi. The Irrigation and Flood Control Department is of the opinion that aided by the rainfall the river may soon touch 206.14 meters by tonight.

To combat the flood like situation in Delhi the government has also arranged for 10 temporary shelters. A number of boats along with expert divers have been kept ready by the river banks to save anyone in emergency. Haryana’s Hathnikund barrage released water upstream which has made Yamuna even more swollen.
