Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill 2010 tabled in Lok Sabha

NEW DELHI - The Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill 2010 was tabled in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Prithviraj Chavan here on Wednesday.
The Bill had various controversial clauses which invited objections from the various Opposition parties.
The United Progressive Alliance government reached out to the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Left Front of the Opposition and accommodated their concerns.
The government is reported to have agreed to drop the controversial “intent” clause or reword it.
The Bill would also include extent of liablitiy of the suppliers of nuclear equipment in case of a nuclear disaster.
The Government apparently conceded the objections as valid, as was stated by MoS for Parliamentary Affairs Prithviraj Chavan during an interview recently saying, “The Opposition has raised valid objections.”
Minister of State for Science and Technology Prithviraj Chavan recently had a meeting with the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley here on Monday. (ANI)
