SRINAGAR - Authorities re-imposed curfew here on Wednesday in order to stop any kind of demonstrations by separatist groups.
Curfew began at six in the morning in Srinagar and areas of Batmaloo, Bemina, Qamarwari, Kralkhud, Nowhatta, Khanyar, MR Gunj, Safakadal, Rainawari, Maisuma, Shaheedgunj, Kothibagh and Abi-Guzar.
Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in large numbers across the state to avert possible incidents of violence.
People remained indoors as offices, schools and business establishments remained closed and vehicles were off the roads.
Law enforcement agencies have been advised to allow the movement of government employees and people seeking medical treatment along with their relatives, after they show their identity cards.
The Chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, on Tuesday issued a 10-day protest programme in order to strengthen the ongoing ‘Quit Jammu and Kashmir Movement’ by the separatists. (ANI)
