JI denounces “greedy” Pak leadership for accepting India’s “meagre” flood aid

KARACHI - Criticising the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led government for accepting India’s offer of five million dollars as flood relief, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has described the country’s present leadership as ‘greedy’.

Addressing a gathering here, JI’s Sindh chapter general secretary, Rashid Naseem, termed India’s offer as a ‘meagre’ amount, and said that Pakistan should have rejected the aid from its archrival.

“Rulers have become so greedy that they have accepted a negligible amount as aid from our archrival India, which proved its enmity to Pakistan by releasing additional floodwater in Chenab and Ravi the very next day,” The Daily Times quoted Naseem, as saying.

He said the country’s leadership has lost its credibility, which was evident from the slow response of both national and international organisations amid the disastrous floods.

Earlier this month, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna had conveyed deep sympathies on behalf of the Government of India and the people of the country on the devastation caused by floods while offering the fund.

Pakistan had earlier rejected the aid, however, it accepted New Delhi’s offer following the US’ prodding. (ANI)
