SRINAGAR - Scores of protestors took to the streets here on Monday to protest against the arrest of local youth by the Jammu and Kashmir police during raids.

Shouting anti-India slogans, the protestors called for the release of the youths.

The police personnel later asked the protestors to discontinue their demonstrations, and to disperse within five minutes.

Earlier on Sunday, the police arrested 17 stone pelters, wanted in different cases of mob violence from different parts of the city.

The Kashmir Valley has experienced a surge of violence that has led authorities to impose frequent curfew restrictions in several parts of the state.urfew was initially imposed on June 30 in parts of northern and southern Kashmir to stop demonstrations over a couple of protesters who died in police firing.

It was lifted some days later, but was again imposed as fresh violence erupted. (ANI)
