Iran says it will mass produce assault boats
TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s state TV says the country’s military has opened production lines for two types of assault boats.
Monday’s report says one of the vessels, known as the Zolfaghar, is armed with missiles. The second is called the Seraj, or Light, and is a high-speed patrol boat with a fiberglass body.
Defense Minister Gen. Ahmad Vahidi says they “will add remarkable powers to Iran’s navy.”
Iran frequently announces advances in military technology, often boasting of self-sufficiency in the face of U.N. sanctions and efforts by the United States and other nations to isolate the country over its nuclear program.
On Sunday, Iran inaugurated the its first domestically built unmanned bomber aircraft. Last week, Tehran test-fired a new surface-to-surface missile.
