Wild Animals Die During Transportation

KOLKATA, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- In a sad development six spotted deer expired 2 days back morning during transportation. The wild animals were being taken to Sunderbans from North 24-Parganas Parmadan deer park. It has been reported that 25 deer were being taken in small wooden enclosures in 4 trucks. They were headed to the Godkhali ghat. They were meant to be released in the Sunderbans as prey for the royal Bengal tigers. However, when the trucks had reached Godkhali ghat the officials were shocked to see six animals were dead. The officials said it is not clear why they died and a post mortem will be performed to know the cause of their demise.

The principal chief conservator of forests Atanu Raha said that one of the trucks got struck in slush on the way and it delayed the journey by a few hours. He guessed that the faint hearted wild animals were over exhausted by the jerks and the heat. It could have resulted in heart failure. Wednesday was very hot and humid. The staff involved in the transportation faced the flak of the higher authorities for their negligence. A veteran forest department official said that the staffs should have been more careful while transporting the animals.

K.S. Rajendrakumar the Forest secretary said that those who are found guilty will be penalized for the death of the wild spotted deer. The incident can cause the wildlife activists see red who have often slammed the forest department for their careless handling of wild animals. The death of six deer in transportation comes as a shame for the forest departments.
