BAD ECONOMIC NEWS CONTINUES: The government said unemployment fell in fewer states in July than in the previous three months, a sign that the pace of job growth has slowed.
BUT TREASURY YIELDS RISE: The 10-year Treasury note’s yield rose to 2.62 percent from 2.58 percent, while the yield on the 30-year bond edged up to 3.66 percent from 3.65 percent.
STOCKS FALL: Stocks finished moderately lower as investors’ gloomy view of the economy deepened.
