MELBOURNE - The Morphy Richards toaster, which was given as a wedding present to British man Andrew Martin and his young bride, is still popping after more than 60 years.
Today, the sprightly 83-year-old still makes toast in it every morning.
“I’ve never had a problem with it. I think I’ve had to replace the element once but that’s it,” the Courier Mail quoted Martin as saying.
“I reckon I may have the oldest continuously working toaster in Australia,” he added.
The toaster was one of the first pop-up toasters made in the UK.
A gift from Martin’s sister-in-law, it traveled with the couple when they migrated to Australia in 1960 and has been in use at breakfast time ever since.
When bought in 1947, the toaster was a luxury item, costing about 250 dollars in today’s money. (ANI)
