Funds for infrastructure along borders fully utilized: Govt.

NEW DELHI - The Government on Wednesday said that the funds issued for infrastructure along borders have been fully utilized.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha said: “The Government has undertaken various border infrastructure projects like construction of border fencing, road, flood lighting all along the border, creation of additional Border Out Posts for border guarding forces. The integrated Check Posts (ICPs)at designated points on the international land border of the country are also being developed under the plan scheme.”
The Border Area Development Programme (BADP) is also under implementation in the bordering districts of 17 States.
“The annual allocation is given by the Planning Commission for BADP. There was an allocation of Rs. 580 crore in 2007-08, Rs. 635 crore in 2008-09 and Rs. 635 crore again in 2009-10. This amount was fully sanctioned to the States and was utilized,” he stated. (ANI)
