TEHRAN - The Iranian military has warned it will seize the Strait of Hormuz, a major gateway to the oil-producing Gulf, if the US attacked the country, state-run Press TV reported Tuesday.

“The country’s armed forces are under highest state of preparedness,” said Brigadier General Ali Shademani, head of Operations Department of Joint Chiefs of Staff of Iranian Armed Forces.

“Three measures are in store to counter any potential aggression against the country. First action would be to take full control of Strait of Hormuz,” he said.

Anyone who tries to attack the country “will be brought to its knees”.

As a second measure, “we are keeping a close watch on all American military bases in Afghanistan and Iraq”.

“With slightest move against Iran, we will paralyze the troops stationed in those bases and won’t allow them to make any move,” Shademani warned.

“Israel is the US’ backyard, so we will disturb the peace there,” the general said of the third plan. “The US and Israel know that we can do it,” he said.
