Residents stage protest with shoes in hand in Srinagar

SRINAGAR - Residents of Hyderpora area in Srinagar city took to streets on Sunday afternoon soon after a shoe hurling incident occurred with the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah during the 64th Independence Day function.

The protestors were agitated over the deaths of persons during the recent clashes with the police in the city.

During today’s protest, the protesting residents carried shoes in their hands and raised pro-freedom slogans.

They were headed towards the main Hyderpora chowk.

Police resorted to baton-charged to curb the protestors and prevented them to move ahead.

No serious injuries were reported till the last reports.

Meanwhile the suspended police officer, who hurled the shoe at the chief minister, remained under arrest and enquiry was being carried out by the security personnel till afternoon. By Hilal Bhatt (ANI)
