NEW YORK - After denim diapers, it is time for skinny jeans for your toddler - a new fashion trend that is causing quite a buzz.

Luckily, these trendy tot pants are stretchy enough to accommodate a diaper.

According to The New York Daily News, Gap is reporting that skinny jeans now comprise 40 percent of its jeans for infant and toddler girls.

And although parents have cut back luxury shopping for them in lieu of recession, they don’t hold back as far as their kids are concerned.

But why skinny jeans?

According to Ava Lane, a mom who snagged four pairs of skinny jeans for her two year old, it’s more fun.

Skinny jeans for babies may have an elastic on the back of the waistband, though they don’t have inseam snaps for diaper changing that most baby outfits do.

Old Navy senior vice president Michelle DeMartini told The Wall Street Journal that a lot of thought had to be put behind the comfort of the apparel.

“Adults might want to forgo comfort for fashion, but children will not,” she said.

Gap took note of the tremendous popularity of adult-styled kids clothes after the chain debuted a kids and baby collaboration last fall with Stella McCartney.

“People love trend take-downs,” GapKids and Baby Gap’s executive vice president Mark Breitbard told the Journal.

“Fashion-right clothes are really adorable the smaller they get.” (ANI)
