SHIMLA - Security has been beefed up in Himachal Pradesh with the deployment of additional police personnel at prominent tourist destinations on the eve of Independence Day, an official said Saturday.

Security has been intensified and adequate measures have been taken across the state, especially at public places like hotels and restaurants, Inspector General (Law and Order) S.R. Mardi told IANS.

He said special security steps have been taken at entry and exit points of the state.

The security in Karsog town in Mandi district, some 150 km from here, where Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal will hoist the tricolour Sunday, was also intensified.

Another police officer said additional check posts have been set up along the inter-state border.

The state shares over 1,100 km of inter-state border with Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Uttarakhand.
