CRPF soldier injured in firing by crowd near Sopore

SRINAGAR - One jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) 179 battalion was severely injured by gun fire during a clash with civilian protesters near Sopore on Saturday.

Giving details, CRPF Deputy Insepector General Prabhakhar Tripathi said that the incident took place in Bomai.

He said some one in a crowd of civilian protesters opened fire on the CRPF battalion, as it sought to control and end the protest.Constable Ravinder Kumar received bullet injuries, and had to be airlifted to the Army Base Hospital in Srinagar for treatment, he added.

DIG Tripathi claimed that people in the crowd of protesters engaged in “intensive firing” on the paramilitary outfit. They also stone pelted the security forces, he said, adding that this could be the first instance of firing by civilians on security personnel in Kashmir in recent times. (ANI)
